Ban of Large Soda

The New York health board has banned the sale of sugary drinks larger than sixteen ounces. This was done in an attempt to combat obeseity. Obeseity is a growing concer to many americans. John Locke said that we the people give up our natural rights in order for a government to do what is best for us. The New York Health board has upheld the social contract because they are attempting to do what is in our best interest despite us not liking it. This may also be seen as a positive step byHobbes who said we put our trust in an all powerful government, many in today’s world see this as a step the national government has no right to take. However based on the evidence that the government is trying to do what is best for us Locke and Hobbes may not have disagreed with the board.
